Transportation Subsidy Programs
The City of Pico Rivera's three transportation subsidy programs
allow students, seniors and handicapped residents to purchase
bus tickets and passes at discounted costs. Students and the
handicapped can purchase theirs at the Parks & Recreation Department while seniors can purchase theirs at the Senior
Center during specified hours. In addition, Pico Rivera
operates a Dial-a-Ride service at no cost to residents who are
at least 55 years old or who are handicapped.

MTA Bus Passenger Subsidy Program
The City of Pico Rivera subsidizes the purchase of monthly Metopolitan
Transit Authority (MTA) bus passes for selected residents through
its Proposition "A" funds.

Passes are sold from the 25th day of each month through the
10th day of the following month. Senior citizens can buy passes
at the Senior Center.

Montebello Bus Line Student Ticket Subsidy
Purchase of student ticket booklets from the Montebello Bus
Line is subsidized by the City for students who live or attend
school in Pico Rivera. Each booklet, which regularly sells
for $8.00, can be purchased by qualified students for $6.00.
It contains 20 tickets good for one-way trips.
Students from kindergarten through high school can purchase
one booklet every month at the Recreation & Community
Services Building, from the 25th day of each month through
the 10th day of the following month. Students must show proof
that they either live or go to school in Pico Rivera at the
time of ticket purchase.

Montebello Bus Line has a special partnership with the City of Pico Rivera authorizing student’s that qualify to purchase Montebello Bus Lines (MBL) Student pass and loading stored value at the reduced rate at the City of Pico Rivera Parks and Recreation Department.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Stored/Cash Value for students only:
Reduced cash/stored value for Pico Rivera K –12 students may only be used on Montebello Bus Lines. You may add cash value on any MBL bus or online to use it on any TAP participating transit agency.
- MBL Student Monthly Pass:
Any MBL Student Monthly pass may ONLY be used on Montebello Bus Lines. If you need to board another TAP participating agency bus, you may purchase an Interagency Transfer or add cash value to your TAP card at the time of boarding to properly board a MBL bus.
- Is my Metro Pass valid on MBL?
MBL does notaccept Metro passes or any other agency’s passes. Montebello Bus Lines only accepts MBL Day Passes, Student Passes, cash value, and Interagency Transfers (IAT).
- What if my card reads “too low” or doesn’t beep correctly on the fare box?
This means that your card is NOT valid to board MBL. You do NOT have a Valid MBL pass or any cash loaded onto your TAP card. You may add cash or purchase a Day Pass or a Student Pass at the time of boarding to properly board a MBL bus.
- What if I used all of my subsidized cash value?
You may still add cash value, purchase a Day Pass or a Student Monthly pass on board any MBL bus or at the Montebello’s Transportation Department, but it will not be subsidized and it will be at full value.

Dial-A-Ride
Dial-A-Ride service was inaugurated in 1984 using Proposition
"A" sales tax revenue. The service is provided at
NO COST to residents who are at least 55 years old and to
those who are handicapped.
The Pico Rivera Dial-A-Ride fleet includes five comfortable
air-conditioned vans. All are equipped with a lift for passengers
using wheelchairs. Service is available seven days a week.
Full daytime service is offered weekdays; Saturday service
is available 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday service until 1 p.m.
Qualified residents may take Dial-a-Ride trips inside City
limits for any purpose such as shopping, attending craft classes,
club meetings or appointments, among others.
Transportation to locations outside City limits is limited
to a radius of six miles of City Hall. These trips are restricted
to medical appointments, education or social services (like
Social Security) office visits.
