Parks
and Recreation Programs/Classes 
The Department of Parks and Recreation operates
and maintains parks and recreational
facilities for the enjoyment of its residents, workers
and visitors. Over 120 developed acres are home to a variety
of recreational facilities, with everything from playgrounds
to an Olympic size pool.
The Department operates nine parks containing 18 athletic
fields, two gymnasiums and four community centers. In addition
to building, maintaining and operating these facilities, the
Department also offers year-round instructional classes,
special or seasonal
events, sports leagues, workshops, recreational
programs and community celebrations for all ages.
The Department aims to strengthen community by providing
experiences that promote healthy lifestyles, connect families
and neighbors, encourage lifelong learning and celebrate life.
It offers recreation programs annually for individuals and
families in a safe, friendly environment. These programs also
make Pico Rivera an attractive and desirable place to live,
work, play and visit.

REACH
(After-School Programs)
Recreation & Education Accelerating
Children's Hopes
REACH is a free after-school program operated by the
Department of Parks and Recreation in collaboration with
the El Rancho Unified School District (ERUSD). The program
was launched in September 1999 and is funded by the After-School
Learning and Safe Neighborhoods Program. It is administered
through the California Department of Education.
REACH is a demonstration of the commitment and investment
that the City has made to increase the quality of life of
its youth. REACH provides a safe and creative environment
for students in grades 1-8, where they can develop their social,
personal, communication and team-building skills through an
arts-based curriculum 8 ERUSD elementary schools: Birney,
Durfee, Magee, North Ranchito, Rio Vista, Rivera, South Ranchito,
and Valencia.
REACH encourages the desire to read, explore the
arts, develop critical thinking and problem solving skills
and gives students the opportunity to experience the excitement
of success that builds self-confidence and accelerates their
hopes for the future.
REACH is accepting applications for
1st thru 5th graders at
all elementary schools in the El Rancho Unified School
District.
REACH packets will be available Monday, July 12, 2010 and
must be walked in to the Department of Parks & Recreation.
The REACH After School Program will
implement a $20 registration fee for the 2010-2011 school
year.
The fee is $20 per student and is non-refundable.
The fee is due upon enrollment in the program. A new registration
fee is applied to each new program each year. Assistance is
available for low-income families.

Child Supervision Programs
Ages Kindergarten through 8th grade
+Walking Crew
Pico Rivera's award-winning after-school program are supervised
by qualified recreation leaders. The program focuses on
homework assistance, character building and recreational
activities. A nutritious snack is provided to participating
students. Recreation leaders escort your child from their
school to designated park sites-- Smith, Pico and Rivera.
A minimum of 10 participants is needed per school.

+Kids Camp
Kids Camp gives children a camping experience that’s
guaranteed to be safe and fun. Designed for Kinder and 1st
grade graduates, Kids Camp offers arts and crafts, group
games and weekly field trips. Morning and afternoon snacks
are provided. Campers must bring a sack lunch daily.
Kids Camp is held at Smith Park. The program is held during the summer months from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Extended Day care is available for the morning for an additional charge of $5 from 7am to 8am and extended day care is available in the afternoon for an additional $5 from 5pm-6pm
+Camp Alottafun 
Summer time is never "boring" at Camp Alottafun!
Day campers, grades 2nd through 5th, will benefit from a
variety of themed activities that include arts and crafts,
games, sports, cooking and weekly fieldtrips. Morning and
afternoon snacks are provided. Campers must bring a sack
lunch daily.
Camp Alottafun is held at Pico Park and Rivera Park. The program is held during the summer months from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Extended Day care is available for the morning for an additional charge of $5 from 7am to 8am and extended day care is available in the afternoon for an additional $5 from 5pm-6pm.
+Camp Pride
Teens who have completed 6th grade to 14 years old will
learn about the world around them while they participate
in leadership activities, weekly field trips, community
service projects and recreational activities. Morning and
afternoon snacks are provided. Campers must bring a sack
lunch daily.
Camp Pride is held at Rio Vista Park. The program is held during the summer months from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Extended Day care is available for the morning for an additional charge of $5 from 7am to 8am and extended day care is available in the afternoon for an additional $5 from 5pm-6pm.

Trips and Tours
Adult and family trips are offered throughout the year for
the enjoyment of residents at affordable prices. Registration
is based on a first-come, first-paid basis at the Parks and Recreation Building, 6767 Passons Blvd.

Education, Recreation and Fitness Programs
The City offers classes open to residents and non-residents
throughout the year. These include classes for preschoolers,
children, teens, adults and seniors. Programs are designed
to develop participants' social and physical skills through
crafts, music, games, sports, arts and fitness classes, among
others. Trained professional staff conduct dance, aerobics
and gymnastics classes for different age groups as well as
self-defense and karate. Staff also conducts sports clinics
and tournaments for selected sports as well as instruction
sessions to learn dance routines for drill teams and cheering
squads.

Nutrition Programs/Classes
Pico Rivera operates a senior nutrition program for its residents
who are at least 60 years old from Monday to Friday at the
Senior Center.

Community Services
Community Pride Day
Join friends and neighbors each year for the annual Community
Pride Day. Over 500 volunteers are bused to local schools,
community centers and parks where they complete beautification
projects. Projects typically involve painting playground equipment
and murals, removing graffiti, and gardening. Last year, volunteers
applied nearly 200 gallons of paint and landscaped over 20,000
square feet of parkways and schools!
Christmas Baskets Committee
Are you over 50 and looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity?
The Pico Rivera Christmas Baskets Committee has been serving
residents for over 30 years and is looking for energetic volunteers!
The Committee conducts fundraisers and canned food drives
throughout the year to raise funds to assemble and distribute
1,000 Christmas baskets each December. The Committee also
operates a thrift store located at 5018 Passons Boulevard.
Be part of the action! Call for more information. The Pico
Rivera Christmas Baskets Committee is a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit
organization.
Community Gardens
Looking to develop a green thumb? If so, you may want to rent
a garden plot in the city’s community garden located
at 8535 Beverly Road in Montebello Gardens. Over 70 gardeners
enjoy the great outdoors as they grow their own fruits and
vegetables. Garden plots are 400 square feet and there is
a limit of one plot per gardener. The city provides water
free of charge. All fruits and vegetables grown in the garden
are for the consumption of gardeners and may not be sold.

Programs for Seniors
The City maintains an on going program of classes, social
services and special events for persons 50 and older. Regular
programs include health screenings, Thursday dances, and a variety of exercise and leisure classes.
These activities are held in Pico
Rivera's Senior Center. In addition to these activities,
the City promotes better health for its senior residents by
operating a fitness center with state-of-the-art exercise
equipment.

Youth Center
The Pico Rivera Youth Center strives to inspire and enable
teens to build strong character and positive lifestyles through
social, recreational, and educational growth. The Youth Center
provides teens with a nurturing environment and alternative
activities to risky behavior, helping youth make healthy decisions.
The center offers homeowrk assistance, internet access, movie
nights, volunteer opportunities, field trips, teen dances,
teen workshops, sports, Arts & Crafts, tournaments and
a place to meet new friends. The center is opened from Monday-Thursday
from 4 p.m. - 7p.m.

Volunteer Opportunities
Have you got time to spare and want to put it to good use?
If so, the City has the answer. The Parks and Recreation
Department is looking for enthusiastic, self motivated volunteers
to roll up there sleeves and help out with our city wide special
events. Assignments may include assistance with event
set-up and tear down, arts and crafts, games, food, decorations
and much more. Volunteer hours are tracked and may receive
recognition for hours worked. If you are interested

If you've ever been to any of the City's special events, you've
probably noticed corporate logos printed on marketing materials.
Corporate financial and in-kind sponsorships help the City
